Any business operating within the Knox Local Government Area that has been in operation for at least 12 months can enter. Businesses of all sizes are welcome - from sole traders to large employers. What matters is the excellence you demonstrate, not the size of your business.

The Knox Local Government Area includes suburbs such as Bayswater, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Knoxfield, Lysterfield, Rowville, Scoresby, The Basin, Wantirna, and Wantirna South. If you're not sure whether your business is in Knox, check your council rates or contact us.

Yes, if at least one of your locations operates within the Knox LGA, you're eligible to enter.

Yes, if your franchise operates independently within Knox. The application should focus on your specific location's achievements and community contribution, not the broader franchise network.

Previous category winners must wait two years before re-entering the same category. However, you can enter a different category the following year. If you were a finalist but didn't win, you can enter again immediately.

The 12-month requirement is firm for the main award categories. However, you can still be nominated for the People's Choice Award by the community, which has no minimum operating period.

Nothing. The Knox Business Awards are completely free to enter. There are no entry fees, no hidden costs, no charges at any stage.

Approximately 30 minutes total. Basic business information takes about 5 minutes, and answering the 3-4 category- specific questions takes about 20-25 minutes. You can save your progress and return to complete it later if needed.

No, each business selects ONE main award category that best showcases their strength. However, all entrants are automatically considered for People's Choice if nominated by the community, and category winners are automatically considered for Business of the Year.

Each category has 3-4 short-answer questions (250-300 words each) specific to that award. For example, Community Champion Award asks about your community contributions, workplace culture, and how you've demonstrated your values. View detailed questions on each award category page.

Supporting materials are optional but strongly encouraged. You can upload up to 3 files such as photos, customer testimonials, letters of support, media coverage, or certificates. Evidence strengthens your application, but if you don't have materials ready, focus on writing compelling answers to the questions.

No, once submitted, applications cannot be edited. Make sure to review carefully before final submission. However, you can save your draft application and return to it as many times as you need before submitting.

Yes! Many businesses have someone from their team, a marketing person, or even a trusted friend help with the application. Just make sure the information and stories are accurate and approved by the business owner or decision-maker.

Applications close July 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Late applications will not be accepted, so don't leave it to the last minute. Applications open May 1, 2026.

Absolutely! Review the detailed category descriptions on our Awards Categories page, or contact us directly. We're happy to discuss which category best showcases your business's strengths.

An independent panel of four expert judges. No Rotary Club members serve as judges to ensure complete impartiality and eliminate any potential bias.

Each judge independently scores applications using a transparent 100-point scoring system. Scores are based on specific criteria for each category - for example, Community Champion Award is scored on community impact (40 points), business integrity (30 points), quality of application (20 points), and Knox commitment (10 points). Scores are averaged across all judges, and the highest- scoring businesses become finalists.

Judges want to see specific examples, authentic stories, and evidence of genuine excellence. They're looking for: • Clear, specific examples (not vague claims)

• Measurable outcomes where possible

• Stories that demonstrate your values in action

• Evidence through photos, testimonials, or supporting materials

• Authentic passion for what you do

Each category has specific criteria detailed on the individual award pages.

Individual scores are not published. Finalists may receive general feedback about their application strengths. Our focus is on celebrating excellence, not creating a competitive environment where scores become the focus.

We don't audit every claim, but finalists undergo verification which may include:

• Quick online reputation check (Google reviews, social media presence)

• Optional site visit (positioned as a photo opportunity for awards night, not an inspection)

• Review of supporting materials provided

We trust applicants to be honest and accurate in their submissions.

Wednesday, October 8, 2026. Venue details will be provided to finalists when they're announced on September 1. The event includes a professional awards presentation followed by cocktail-style networking.

The event is open to anyone. Finalists receive complimentary tickets (2-4 per business). Additional tickets can be purchased by finalists, sponsors, and members of the business community who want to celebrate Knox excellence.

Business attire or smart casual. This is a professional celebration of business excellence - dress in a way that makes you feel confident and appropriate for a formal business event.

The evening begins with a professional awards presentation where all six category winners are announced (Community Champion, Customer Excellence, Innovation & Growth, Young Business Leader, People's Choice, and Business of the Year). This is followed by a cocktail-style networking event where attendees can mingle, celebrate, and connect with other Knox business leaders.

Absolutely! If you're a finalist, you receive complimentary tickets and can purchase additional tickets for team members. Celebrating with your team is encouraged - they're part of what makes your business excellent.

Yes, we have professional photography throughout the event. Winners will have formal photos taken with their trophies, and event photography will be shared with all attendees after the event. These photos are yours to use for promotional purposes.

People's Choice is the only award determined entirely by community vote - there are no judges, no scoring system, no criteria. It's pure community recognition. Any Knox business can win, whether they've entered the main awards or not.

No, businesses cannot nominate themselves for People's Choice. However, you can (and should!) encourage your customers, employees, and community supporters to nominate you.

Yes, you can vote for your own business, but remember - it's only one vote per email address. The real power comes from rallying your community to vote for you.

Nomination Period (May 1 - July 31): Anyone can nominate any Knox business with a brief reason why they deserve recognition.

Voting Period (September 1 - October 1): All nominated businesses appear on the voting ballot. Community members vote online for their favourite. One vote per email address.

Winner Announcement (October 8): The business with the most votes wins the People's Choice Award, announced at our awards presentation.

Yes! You can nominate as many Knox businesses as you'd like during the nomination period. Each nomination requires a brief reason (100 words maximum) why they deserve recognition

All nominated businesses will appear on the voting ballot when voting opens on September 1. If you're not sure if your favorite business has been nominated, nominate them yourself to ensure they're included!

We collect email addresses to prevent duplicate voting, but individual votes are not published. The winner is determined by total vote count only. Your specific vote choice remains private.

Business of the Year is selected from the four main category winners (Community Champion, Customer Excellence, Innovation & Growth, and Young Business Leader) by our independent judging panel. After determining each category winner, judges review all four winners against a separate set of criteria that assesses breadth of excellence, community presence, sustainable growth, and authentic achievement.

No. Simply enter one of the four main award categories. If your business wins its category, you are automatically considered for Business of the Year. No additional application is required.

Our judges look for a business that demonstrates excellence beyond a single dimension. While each category winner leads in their area, Business of the Year recognizes a business that is exceptional across the board - in community contribution, customer service, innovation, and long-term commitment to Knox. It's a business that Knox would genuinely miss if it closed.

No. Our judges apply a minimum standard to this award (30 out of 50 points). If no category winner meets the required threshold of excellence, the Business of the Year award will not be presented that year. This ensures the award retains its prestige and meaning.

The Business of the Year winner receives our most prestigious trophy, a dedicated media campaign, prominent placement on the Knox Business Awards website for the full year, and recognition as Knox's finest business. They also retain any benefits from their category win, including satellite club membership

October 8, 2026 at the awards presentation. While category winners are announced throughout the evening, Business of the Year is kept confidential until the final moment of the event, creating anticipation for all category winners in attendance.

The Knox Business Awards are presented by the Rotary Club of Rowville-Lysterfield, serving the Knox community. The program celebrates business excellence and strengthens connections within our local business community.

Entering the Knox Business Awards:

• Recognises your achievements and hard work

• Celebrates your team and what you've built

• Provides publicity and promotional exposure

• Connects you with other exceptional Knox businesses

• Positions your business as a leader in the community

• Costs nothing and takes only 30 minutes

Even if you don't win, being recognised as a finalist or participant shows your commitment to excellence.

Being selected as a finalist is itself a significant achievement - it means independent judges recognized your business as one of the top 3-5 in your category across all Knox. Finalists receive recognition, promotional exposure, and the opportunity to celebrate with other exceptional businesses at our awards night. Plus, the process of completing the application often helps businesses reflect on and articulate their own achievements.

The awards are designed for for-profit businesses. However, social enterprises that operate as businesses within Knox are welcome to enter. If you're unsure whether your organisation qualifies, contact us to discuss.
